Description
Art works: " Queen ofThe Burning House" and "Love Birds" at the Fall art exhibition at The Plaxall Building Gallery, on November 22, 2016
A few days after, looking back at the opening night on November 22, 2016 at the Plaxall Gallery in LIC, my memory flew to the six thousand sq. foot space full of the fabulous collection of fine art of the LIC- A organization, which has been supporting artists with a wide rage of creative expression, since 1985, including figurative and fantasy art, modern abstract, minimalist, political portraiture and electronic installations, to name only but a small sample.
The exhibition is a melange of imagery and a wild fantasy flow of local artists within your reach at a venue where a few hundred people may freely mingle, dance and engage in discussion and debate.
Throughout the evening, the Brazilian Jazz music of Daniel Silva Baterista's group supplied a happy pulse of the party. The song writer, Juliana Carr, captivated the crowd far beyond the opening hours with her sweet voice and deep lyrics. The dance improvisation of the dance duo of Tana Sirois and Maria Swesher expressed - through modern movement - the complex condition of American Politics. "Fire Words" of modern poetry presented by the author, Audrey "Wildfire" Dimola, ignited a powerful urge to offer prayers to the Madness of creative expression, as a Deity, a Holy Spirit, or a Face of the Divine.
Loud, unending, applause is due to the organizer of this event, the gifted sculptor, Edjo Wheeler, for being a skillful leader and engineer, who summoned, out of thin air, like a great magician, chandeliers and beam lights and turned a huge, but dark, warehouse into an arena of light, laughter and learning.
The tireless crew of artists: Eileen Coyne, Yelena Tylkina, Jason A. Cina, Tessa Kennedy and a few others labored very hard to clean up the space, painted the walls, and hung over 200 items of art to help create an incredible exhibition in just a few short days, working like busy bees over 10 hours a day! Professional artists, who were also enthusiastic volunteers, made this event possible for the LIC art community and lovers of art everywhere - not just for now but for the future of the American Art.
